trois carrésLabSIC has some 30 doctoral students. It is particularly interested in avoiding premature failures of projects, and in reducing the time taken to complete doctorates. Both these aims are furthered by the maintenance of high standards in the selection and supervision of students, and their successful integration into the laboratory.
In late 2012, in pursuit of these objectives, LabSIC created a system of follow-up for doctoral students, whereby supervision is complemented by an annual review and a report that is submitted each time a student is due to renew his or her registration. There are general and methodological seminars (one of which is organised by the Edition group), along with a programme at the Erasme doctoral school (http://www.univ-paris13.fr/ecole-doctorale-erasme/) and one at Labex ICCA (http://www.iccalab.fr/). There is also an "international" seminar, aimed at increasing awareness of scientific work published outside France; and international approaches have been introduced into the doctoral research programme. Each student is expected to make an annual contribution to at least one of the seminars, or to the "doc days" organised by Erasme.
Doctoral students are represented on LabSIC's governing body by Anne Gagnebien ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. There are also discussions between doctoral students and those preparing either "research" or "professional" master's degrees, with the intention of doing a doctorate in due course.
LabSIC encourages doctoral students to participate in symposia where they can discuss their work. This depends on the resources available, the progress the student has made, and his or her involvement in the activities of the laboratory.
